2014 Outstanding Alumnus Award from the NCSU College of Agriculture and Life Sciences September 8, 2014Newsalumni, awards, costa rica, international, SuttonBryan Dr. Luis Felipe Arauz received the 2014 Outstanding Alumnus Award from the NCSU College of Agriculture and Life Sciences on September 5. In 1988, Felipe earned a Master of Science in Plant Pathology and in 1990, a Ph.D. in Plant Pathology both from NC State University under the direction of Dr. Turner Sutton. Dr. Arauz returned to his native Costa Rica in 1990 as a Professor of Plant Pathology in the Department of Crop Science at the University of Costa Rica. In 1997-2005, he served as Director of the Department of Crop Science and from 2004-2009 Felipe was Director of the Institute for Agricultural Research at UCR. He was appointed Dean of the UCR College of Agriculture and Food Science in 2009 and held this position until 2014. In May 2014, he was appointed Minister of Agriculture for Costa Rica by the new President of Costa Rica, Luis Guillermo Solis.
